"Coming to America" ; an Immigration Reform Forum

<p>You are invited to attend “Coming to America,” an immigration forum, to be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Meriden on December 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. The church is located at 328 Paddock Avenue, Meriden, CT. </p> <p>The event is sponsored by United Action Connecticut or UACT, of which the church is a member. UACT is an inter-religious group that builds coalitions around issues of needed change. </p> <p>Immigration reform is one such issue. Except for indigenous peoples, we are a nation of immigrants. Some of our families came here before there were rules or regulations, some came as slaves, some came with “papers,” some not. This forum will address the current issues facing those who would like to emigrate to the United States. We will play a game, “Coming to America,” which will outline some of the choices that need to be made by people who want to live in our country. </p> <p>You will meet young “Dreamers,” those who were brought here as children and have lived and gone to school here for most of their lives, but who have few rights. </p> <p>You will meet their parents, and other adults who live and work here but do not have official documents. </p> <p>You learn from playing the game, but also from sitting and eating a meal with a variety of people you may never have met. </p> <p>The event is free.
